Multicolor Profiling

The CMYK+ concept...

Traditional printing processes use the four primary inks CMYK.
This combination gives a gamut that is suitable for typical commercial print jobs.

Whenever dedicated brand colors have to be printed a special ink needs to be used as spot color.
This increases the complexity and costs.

In order to make the process simpler and reduce the costs it is possible to use additional fixed inks.
These additional primary inks extend the achievable color gamut and enable the reproduction of vivid and saturated colors.
It is often not necessary anymore to use dedicated inks.

This method has been called ECG (Expanded Color Gamut) and basically describes a 7 colors process (CMYK+OGV). But a combination of CMYK + 1 or 2 additional inks (CMYK+O, CMYK+OG, etc) can also be part of it.

Cost savings are achieved by reduction of washing cycles that occur due to ink changes. Also the achieved standardization allows faster make-ready and less waste.

The challenge of Digital Printing

The challenge of digital printing is to reproduce these brand colors with various inks and technologies, while most of them are specified with Pantone numbers, a matching system based on traditional inks (read article Pantone Alternative).
An accurate conversion of the P reference to your printer profile is needed in the printer driver.

To achieve the best reproduction of spot colors a dedicated multicolor printer profile has to be used.
MYIRO solutions give the biggest and the most accurate gamut available for your machine.

The MYIROtools Multicolor Add-On is easy to use and comes with presets for typical applications whatever you are printing with traditional or digital technologies.

If you have special needs feel free to get in touch with us. We already optimized the multicolor profiling for different OEM customers.

Minimize Inks

Minimize Inks

It is possible to print e.g. an orange using magenta and yellow (and orange in addition).
This setting uses the orange ink only if possible.
It avoids mixing of redundant inks.

CMY only

CMY only

Most vendors of digital printing systems charge their customers based on usage (click-costs).
Some even charge for every single channel that is used.
This is an advantage if e.g. black&white jobs can be printed using the black ink only.
But if the content could be printed without black ink then unnecessary costs are produced.

This setting creates a profile which uses CMY only to avoid click-costs for the black channel.
